A requiem is a sonnet written in the memory of some body to remember their passing. O Captain, My Captain was a funeral poem composed by Whitman in the memory of Abraham Lincoln. In the sonnet he is contrasting Abraham's excursion as an excursion of a chief who takes his boat on a journey and after the journey is done the boat returns triumphant. There are a great deal of imagery is this verse, America was being represented by the boat, the common war was being represented the journey and the leader of America was being represented by the skipper of the boat. The main verse discusses the skipper, of chief of the boat which is Lincoln, taken on a conflict and had won the fight and now the individuals were praising their triumph. There is an adjustment in state of mind after every four lines, in each verse, the initial two lines are glad lines and the last two lines are dismal. The 'yet'' in the subsequent refrain speak to the adjustment in mind-set after such an extensive amount festivity and upbeat second, the chief who was driving the boat has passed on.
