In spite of the fact that he discredited the case of being an extraordinary communicator and replied by saying, l imparted incredible things, his discourse streamed with progress, since he credited individual Americans for the condition of our nation. From the start of his discourse where he stated, such a large number of you have composed the previous hardly any weeks to express profound gratitude, yet I could state as a lot to you. until the end where he stated, My companions, we did it. We werent Just checking time, we had any kind of effect. We made the city more grounded we made the city more liberated and we left her in great hands. Utilizing anaphora, he unassumingly incorporated his audience members as the basic fixing to progress. Being the Great Communicator he was, Reagan conveyed his supplication for opportunity through his own involvement with the White House. Most of his discourse as sandwiched between two individual representations of gazing out an upstairs window situated in the White House. These encounters, reflections at a window not just filled in as an opening and shutting request for opportunity, however they additionally appear to have filled in as a kind of timetable for opportunity. As far as he can tell he referenced that somebody once said that it was likewise Lincoln see when he saw the smoke ascending from the skirmish of Bull Run. The subsequent scene references a statement from an early traveler by the name of John Winthrop. The two scenes appear to have referenced the here and now of this discourse as well.In the primary scene he stated, l see progressively common things: the grass on the banks, the morning traffic as individuals advance toward work, every so often a boat on the waterway. These consistently, conventional things spoke to the opportunities that Reagan so urgently needed to see thrive. The grass appears to represent harmony in what used to be a war torn zone during the common war. The regularly scheduled drive represented our opportunity to work, try sincerely and procure whatever we want, with our potential not restricted by anything, however maybe our own absence of motivation. The boat appeared to represent the opportunity to have and to do whatever we pick in an and that was free. With respect to assurance, he referenced that harmony could possibly become reality when we were viewed as solid and incredible. The aftereffect of these two triumphs was a changed country, however a changed world. Sadly, the expansion in the pride of America from inside and all inclusive was genuinely brief as depicted by flogger Jennifer Mercies, Reagan prevailing with regards to improving American assurance from its depressed spot in the asses, yet after he left office the country didn't support its conflicted energy about America. 3 Reagan was unassuming enough to offer credit to the individuals for the condition of our country, but on the other hand rushed to consider us liable to ensure and safeguard opportunity. He alluded to the United States Constitution, the very report that secures our opportunity even today. Reagan demanded that for this incredible opportunity to proceed, we the individuals must act. In a case of anaphora, He references we the individuals multiple times t o drive his place of obligation to the individuals. Toward the finish of the location, we see another case of anaphora when President Reagan says in his straightforward, straightforward tone, Weve got the opportunity to make a superior Showing of getting over that America is opportunity the right to speak freely of discourse, opportunity of religion, opportunity of big business and opportunity is unique and uncommon. Its delicate; it needs security. President Reagan provoked us to confine government so as to protect opportunity. He stated, man [was] not free except if government is restricted. He at that point continued to utilize the Soviet Union for instance of government that restricted freedom.Reagan emphatically asked the individuals to keep on overseeing the forces to be, proceeding to assemble our connections as long as it didn't bargain our qualities. He at that point utilized another case of anaphora in reference to our relationship with the Soviet Union, Its despite everything trust except confirm. Its despite everything play except cut the cards. Its despite everything observe intently and dont be reluctant to perceive what you see. He at that point immediately moved from Russia back over the lake to Washington D. C. Furthermore, referenced his own triumphs inside this administration and tested Reggaes Regiments to become Bushs Brigades in the battle to keep congress in check.President Reagan utilized logos in this goodbye address to illuminated the country of the significance of energy in making sure about opportunity for our future. He made a mind boggling Showing portraying our duty with respect to energy. The country was at a significant level in national pride, yet to remain there, we required activity. He started to depict the basic moves that must make place like showing our kids what america's identity is and how she fits into history. He stated, Weve got the opportunity to train history put together not with respect to whats in design however whats significant: Why the explorers came here, who Jimmy Doolittle was, and what those 30 seconds over Tokyo implied. Reagan accentuated that we should always remember what we did, positive or negative, or we will overlook who we truly are. He likewise mentioned that we have to give better consideration to American History and more enthusiasm for urban ceremony. One of the last duties, and employments of logos, he called the American individuals to with respect to enthusiasm was the significance of family time in reference to the enormity of America and he says, All extraordinary change in America starts during supper. Indeed the incredible communicator conveyed extraordinary things. Essentials for opportunity through a compelling visual lesson.Josh Bollixing summed up his discourse by saying, This discourse stays significant to expository examination since it represents the impact that ethos, feeling, and logos can have on a crowd of people when utilized accurately. 4 He was really an astonishing instructor as expressed in Wisped, Reggaes viability as an open speaker earned him the moniker, Great Communicator. Previous Reagan speech specialist Ken Changing composed, What made him the Great Communicator was Ronald Reggaes assurance and capacity to teach his crowd, to breath life into his thoughts by utilizing outlines and word pictures to make his contentions striking to the brains eye.

Summary Of The Devil And Miss Prym And Shirley Jacksons...
Paulo Coelho, writer of The Devil and Miss Prym and Shirley Jackson, writer of ââ¬Å"The Lotteryâ⬠, both reiterate the idea that a democratic government can be very dangerous if wrong propositions are voted upon by a public. Likewise in both stories, wrong decisions are made by society, and bring conflict and chaos to a village. People are put in a life or death scenario, and little or nothing could be done because society chose to believe that doing wrong was justified morally. In The Devil and Miss Prym, a young girl by the name of Chantal is put in a difficult situation when a stranger comes into the small village of Viscos. The stranger brings an evil proposition to her and the rest of Viscos that would bring the evil out of everyone.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The one chosen is to be stoned by the town people. Even though this would seem unfair, it was believed that such tradition would keep a stable environment among the crops and the town itself. In the end, a mother by the name of Tessie Hutchinson is chosen to be stoned. In both stories the main types of conflict are between people versus society. Some would argue this is the worst type of conflict because it is a single person against a democratic government or societal group where everyone is opposed to your point of view. Even if the wrong decisions are being made, little or nothing can be done since everyone voted upon it. In The Devil and Miss Prym, Chantal is opposed to killing anyone for money. She saw these actions inhuman, especially when killing an old lady who did not deserve to die in that way. Chantal goes against Viscos and uses fear as a way to stop them from executing the murder. She states that getting the money after the murder wasnââ¬â¢t going to be as easy as it seemed, and that authorities will get involved once they go and cash in the gold bricks. Meaning they would get caught sooner or later for committing a murder and the consequences were going to be much severe t han expected. Little by little, the views of the town people started to change and one by one everyone started to leave back home. (Coelho, 190-197). Coelho also demonstrates person versus society when Chantal is held responsible for

Sometimes a Shining Moment Good Teachers/ Bad Teachers Essay Example For Students
Sometimes a Shining Moment: Good Teachers/ Bad Teachers Essay Sometimes a Shining Moment: Good Teachers/ Bad Teachers Essay In the book Sometimes a Shining Moment: Eliot Wiginton had a student that talked about a teacher who takes time to recognize students as an individual and not just part of a group. The student went on to say I had one particular teacher that I would never forget. Once when the teacher gave back an essay I found that she had complimented my essay, the topic, and even me. I had a teacher that that was just like the teacher that one of the juniors or seniors had. The teacher that I remember the best was my twelfth grade English teacher, Mrs. Oehler was a type of teacher that always involved every one in the class discussion. She took the time to realize me as a individual and not just a student that showed up for her class every day. Every day when I went to class I was excited to be their. We never knew what Mrs. Oehler had up her sleeve, but we knew that we would have a good time. When I showed up at room 124 on the first day of class I did not know what to expect. You see I never had Mrs. Oehler in my previous three years of high school. I thought she would be a nice person to have as teacher, but I never knew that she would be the best teacher that I ever had. I first noticed that Mrs. Oehler was a special kind of person when she came over to my desk and out of the clear blue she asked me about my story I was writing for her class. I was surprised to here her say so Matt how do you like you story so far. She did not ask any body else in the class, just me. It was those little things that she did that impressed me. She always made time in class for each and every one of us to state our opinion about the days topic. Some days when we were reading a story she would turn it into a theatrical performance. She always keep us interested in what we were reading, and turned an ordinary assignment that would of been boring with any other teacher into a fun and rewarding experience. We read the Adromenal Strain a story that dealt with a deadly virus from outer space and the use of the atomic bomb to rid the earth of this deadly infection. Our class was mixed with different emotions about using the atomic bomb. We discussed the effects and devastation that the bomb could bring and compared them to the good possibilities that could occur from bombing the city that had been hit with this infections virus. In order to make this debate more interesting than before Mrs. Oehler declared every one in the class congressmen. We were then required to write a letter of recommendation to the President of the United States of America. The topic of the letter was to persuade the president to drop or not to drop the bomb. I took this assignment to heart, I tried to make the letter look so official and realistic as possible. That night when I went home I turned on the computer and created a letter head to match the letter head of this letter that I got from Congressman John Kaisch. I did such a good job that Mrs. Oehler showed it off to the whole entire class. When one of her students in her class did some thing that was extremely outstanding she would take notice and share it with the class. It was things like that she did that made her class a fun learning experience. .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .postImageUrl , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:hover , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:visited , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:active { border:0!important; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:active , .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4 .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1ae67c2b7ebdf8a024aeff706f2088e4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Marijuana Essay Another student from Wigintons book said: I had a teacher who was always willing to stay after class and talk to you. The Glorious Death of Achilles free essay sample
While Achilles as an epic hero possesses all the characteristics that made him noble including other characteristics that lead to his downfall such as pride and wrath, still these contribute for him to attain a death that is noble and glorious for the sake of comradeship and loyalty, all for Patroclus. An epic is genre in literature that revolves its plot on heroism such as the lives of Achilles, Odysseus, and Beowulf. As a matter of fact, the history of the epic is traceable to the so called ââ¬Å"Heroic Ageâ⬠as a repository of the wars that has taken place in history. Since the epic is usually set in the heroic age, an epic is known to have given birth to the notion of an epic hero or otherwise known as the tragic hero in literature (Abercrombie 11). The term epic hero, in general, refers to a person with a superior social status, most often a king or a leader. We will write a custom essay sample on The Glorious Death of Achilles or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page His physical attributes are usually tall, handsome, and muscular. More than having the body that resembles that of the God statue in Greece, the epic hero is also expected to be preeminent, athletic and more so, imbued with fighting skills. The skills that are contemplated out of him are not only the physical fitness to fight but also the courage and the determination. Moreover, he is also outstanding intellectually and strategically. In order for the hero to display his true nature and abilities, he has to go to a crisis like a war or a quest in which his response to hi predicaments will all that matters in determining his fate (Toohey 10). There is pattern to the epic heroââ¬â¢s quest in determining his real strength. At first, he had to be at odds with the community. These are for various reasons such as disrespect to the gods and his fellow warriors. This will then be followed by a long wandering to that will allow him to ponder on things and gain an understanding of himself. à After contemplated on what he has done and surmounted numerous feats, he will return to his community and will be wholeheartedly accepted by the citizens. After conquering his weaknesses, the hero will now attain loyalty, patience, empathy, and a proper sense of shame and dignity (Toohey 11). In Homer, the heroic ideal is the ââ¬Å"powerful image of the physically perfect young hero dying for fame and escaping maturation by achieving a good death that ends his physical history in combat (Miller 4).â⬠Another heroic ideal that is evident in the epics of Homer is that the hero death is purposely to defend the state. This is often referred to as the glorious death (Miller 5). In Iliad, death is seen as inescapable and final. Those who incur death through fighting for their motherland achieve glory and outlive finite life (Silk 60). Moreover, the epic hero is not like any other man like us. He is distinct from us. He serves as a paradigm with their ability and courage to risk death. He may be ââ¬Å"mortal and so not actually gods, but whether in-human, sub-human, or seemingly super-human, they are remote from ordinary humanity (Silk 62).â⬠However, despite all these positive traits that an epic hero possesses, he does not remain untarnished. According to Aristotle, the so called ââ¬Å"noble heroâ⬠in an epic possesses the hubristic tragic flaw. This tendency is drawn upon the belief of the tragic hero in his self not only by reason of his high status in the society but also his god-like ability and mortality. Because of these hubristic tendencies that he possesses, he is usually destroyed by divine intervention mostly because of his tendencies to anger the gods. These two usually bring the epic hero into his final downfall ââ¬â death. However, as mentioned earlier, his death would not be a futile endeavor for his death would be celebrated as a noble deed among his country man. Moreover, the predicament of the epic hero brings about catharsis to readers that evoke pity and awe from readers instead of anger or blame (Miller 7). Achilles is among the great Greek warriors, if not the greatest, in Greeceââ¬â¢s war against Troy as chronicled by the epic poem The Iliad by Homer. The characteristics of an epic hero as enumerated above sure fit Achilles. In the first place, he is of superior status. He is ââ¬Å"an exceptional hero [with a] suitably special, even alien, background. His mother is a sea-nymph and he was brought up by a centaur Chiron. And during the action these alien connections are evoked by his god-made weapons, his talking horse, his flight with a river (Silk 78).â⬠In terms of physical attribute and fighting skills, there is no doubt that Achilles is one of a kind. In Homerââ¬â¢s description of him while in wrath he said, ââ¬Å"Godlike Achilles, swift of foot, sat by his ships,/ still angry over fair-complexioned Briseis, seized/ from Lyrnessus after heavy fighting./ Achilles had laid waste Lyrnessus and Thebesââ¬â¢s walls, / overthrown the spearman Mynes and Epistrophus, / sons of the Lord Eunus, son of king Selepius (Homer 49).â⬠Moreover, he is known to be fierce in battle. He was endowed by his mother Thesis and invincibility power against attacks. As a matter of fact, he is portrayed by Homer as undefeatable in war. When Achilles decided to not join the war because Agamemnon had done him wrong, the Trojans were much confident in defeating the Greeks which means they consider Achilles as the bearer of the torch of victory. In the words of Homer: ââ¬Å"When Lord Achilles used to go to battle, / the Trojans didnââ¬â¢t dare to venture out/ beyond the Dradanian gates. They feared/ his mighty spear. But now theyââ¬â¢re fighting/ well outside the city, by out hollow ships (Homer 117).â⬠However, just like any other epic hero, Achillesââ¬â¢ downfall is due to his hubristic tendencies. He believes too much in himself. He considers himself as immortal not only because the invincibility power that her mother endowed to him but also because of his strength, courage, and fighting ability. He considers himself an important puzzle piece in the army which he really is. When he was rubbed the wrong way by Agamemnon by taking Briseis away from him, he refused to go to war which was a drawback to the Greeks. Because of his pride and his refusal in joining the army into battle, Patroclus decided to wear his armor so as to suck the confidence among the Trojans now that Achilles is back in the field. However, this act of Patroclus leads to the first stage in the downfall of Achilles. The death of Patroclus is the very reason why he waged revenge against Hector which was the commencement of his own death. When Patroclus died, Achilles was so devastated that he ââ¬Å"will slaughter Hector. From that moment on, / [Heââ¬â¢ll] make the Trojans steadily fall back, leaving the ships, until Achaeans take/ steep Ilion, with Athenaââ¬â¢s grace (Homer 316).â⬠Despite the intervention of the gods including his motherââ¬â¢s foreboding of his destine death id he kills Hector, he remained determined to avenge the death of his friend Patroclus. He is consumed with both grief and wrath that he ââ¬Å"scooped up soot and dust and poured it/ on his head, covering his handsome face with dirt, covering his sweet-smelling tunic with black ash (Homer 396).â⬠Despite his knowledge that he is going to die after hector dies which means that the death of hector implies his own, he was not taken aback. This is not for the reason of pride for he has already fulfilled his first stage of his downfall. This is where anger consumes him. However, we would also see Achilles in the positive side of the spectrum which would render him different among other epic heroes. In Achilles, we see a man that will die not only for himself, or his motherland, but also for a friend. When he was warned by his mother that his death follows that of Hector, he did not hesitate. He did not fear his life for the reason that he is going to risk his life to give honor to Patroclus, his good comrade. Instead of a self-absorbed hero that we see at the beginning of the play, we now see Achilles as someone who will risk his life for someone that is important. Not the kind of sacrifice that he is to do to get Briseis back but the kind of sacrifice that a mother will do for her daughter and a father will do for his son. His death, therefore, is what was discussed above, that of a ââ¬Å"glorious death.â⬠I think this is the reason why Achilles has remained to be one of the most celebrated heroes in the history of epic poetry. He brings about catharsis to readers, a sense of pity and awe which is the final stage of an epic drama. His willingness to sacrifice his life all for the sake of comradeship is the noblest that he has done beyond all the battles that he has won and enemies that he has slain. Despite all his weaknesses his pride and his anger, his act of risking his life for Patroclus, says it all of his being a hero. Works Cited Homer, Johnston, Ian and Crowe, Ian.
